ONGOING R&D PROJECTS

Episome Biotechnology continues to work on microorganism-based technologies and allocates significant resources to research and development activities. You can find information about our research activities in energy, animal care and pharmaceutical sectors on this page.

BioHydrogen

Gas projects Hydrogen (1).jpg

Hydrogen contains very high energy levels, therefore it is called the fuel of the future. It is a molecule with a very low molecular weight but high energy content. Hydrogen, which is produced by electrolysis method using electricity widely with today's technologies, is produced both inefficiently and expensively due to this method. By using fermentative methods, an alternative way of hydrogen production, it is possible to get rid of waste while obtaining hydrogen from biomass and to produce organic fertilizer as a by-product. EpiHydro project is about hydrogen production from cellulosic wastes. We want to transform hydrogen industry by becoming economically advantageous and environmentally friendly.

Antibiotic Free Poultry

Poultry, which is one of the cheap protein sources that people can access to, cannot reach the beneficial microorganisms they get from nature when they are grown with industrial methods. This makes their digestive systems vulnerable to infections. Therefore, giving high levels of antibiotics to chickens to fight infections causes antibiotic contamination of food chain and exposure of the consumers to these antibiotics. As Episome Biotech, which currently produces animal feed additives to aid digestion, we are continiung our R&D studies on new probiotic feed additives that can fight pathogens effectively. Our aim is to implement a product that will settle in the intestinal flora of the poultry and secrete antimicrobials and suppress pathogens in the external environment through feces as well as in the intestines. With the implementation of this product, it will be possible to increase productivity and profitability in the poultry sector, and to obtain products that are more beneficial to human health.

Next Generation Biofuel Technologies

Biofuels based on lignocellulosic biomass consisting of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin have the potential to significantly reduce fossil fuel dependence and greenhouse gas emissions. It is very difficult to separate and hydrolyse cellulose and hemicellulose, which can be converted into biofuels by microorganisms from lignocellulosic biomass. Optimization studies on biofuel production from agricultural wastes continue due to high operating costs, excessive use of chemicals and low efficiency. Whatever your cellulosic feedstock is, it can be efficiently hydrolyzed into simple sugars with our cost-effective pretreatment and technology EpiCellulyse XT, and these simple sugars can be converted into a variety of biofuels such as bioethanol, biomethane, biobutanol by various fermentation methods. In today's world, where the importance of storable , clean, efficient and renewable energy (ie biofuels) is increasing, we have devoted a significant part of our R&D activities to make renewable biofuel production processes more efficient. Episome dedicates a significant amount of R&D sources to develop a zero-carbon future...

Natural Antimicrobial Molecules

Staphylococcus_aureus_(AB_Test).jpg

An antimicrobial molecule is defined as a natural or synthetic substance that kills or inhibits the growth of microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi. For environmentally friendly and healthy products, Episome Biotechnology conducts R&D studies to develop chemical-free natural antimicrobial molecules. We aim to discover the molecules that will form the basis of the drugs of the future, with our studies on hundreds of microorganism species in our company's culture collection, as well as the microorganisms that we keep isolating from nature.

Prophylactic Probiotic Microorganisms

Probiotic microorganisms have been considered as food supplements for human health and evaluated in terms of intestinal health. However, microorganisms are creatures that have protective effects in many areas from reproductive health to respiratory health, from allergies to obesity... There are studies that probiotics can be used in the prevention and treatment of many diseases. Episome Biotechnology is working on therapeutic and preventive probiotic preparations and researching ways to develop cures without exposing patients to drug side effects.
